The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Wireless Services Module (WiSM) utilizes a combination of centralized security policies, wireless intrusion prevention system (IPS) capabilities, RF management, quality of service (QoS), and Layer 3 fast secure roaming for wireless Lans (WLANs) to provide the most secure wireless system available on the market. The Cisco WiSM is a member of the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller family, working in conjunction with Cisco Aironet lightweight access points, the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS), and the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance to support mission-critical wireless data, voice, and video applications. For even greater scalability, the Cisco WiSM can be deployed in conjunction with other Cisco wireless LAN controllers.
